Favorite Places in Upstate SC: Local Hidden Gems You’ll Love Exploring

As much as I love helping clients find the perfect home, I also enjoy soaking in the beauty and charm of Upstate South Carolina. Whether you’re new to the area or a long-time resident looking for something off the beaten path, Upstate is full of hidden gems worth discovering.

Here are a few of my favorite local spots—perfect for weekend adventures, quiet escapes, or getting to know your new neighborhood a little better.

1. Campbell’s Covered Bridge – Landrum, SC

The last remaining covered bridge in South Carolina, Campbell’s Covered Bridge is a peaceful reminder of the past nestled in the countryside. Surrounded by a quiet creek and scenic walking trails, it’s an ideal spot for photography, picnics, or just taking a breath of fresh air. Bonus: it’s absolutely beautiful in the fall!

2. Swamp Rabbit Trail – Greenville, SC

This 22-mile multi-use greenway runs from Greenville to Travelers Rest and is a local favorite for biking, walking, or jogging. Along the way, you’ll find parks, cafés, breweries, and scenic views that make it more than just a trail—it’s an Upstate lifestyle. It's also a great way to get a feel for several neighborhoods while staying active.

3. The Village of West Greenville

If you love art, food, and one-of-a-kind finds, head to the Village of West Greenville. This revitalized district blends modern creativity with historic charm. You’ll find art galleries, local coffee shops, creative studios, and boutiques that reflect the area’s eclectic spirit. It’s my go-to place when I need a little inspiration—or a really good cup of coffee.

4. Lake Jocassee – Near Salem, SC

Tucked into the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Lake Jocassee feels like an untouched paradise. Clear mountain waters, waterfall-fed coves, and quiet hiking trails make it the perfect weekend escape. Whether you love to kayak, paddleboard, or simply relax lakeside, it’s a true hidden gem for nature lovers.

Final Thoughts

One of the best things about living in Upstate South Carolina is that there's always something new to explore. These hidden gems remind me why I love calling this area home—and why so many others fall in love with it, too.
